Mina Foundation and Ethereum Foundation Launch Joint RFP

The Mina Foundation and Ethereum Foundation have announced a joint request for proposals (RFP), to enable recursive SNARK applications, on the Ethereum blockchain.

San Francisco, CA; February 17, 2021 – The Mina Foundation and Ethereum Foundation have announced a joint request for proposals (RFP), to enable recursive SNARK applications, on the Ethereum blockchain.

The RFP is open for six weeks and welcomes proposals from projects aiming to design and implement a mechanism to verify the Pickles SNARK on the Ethereum Virtual Machine.

“We are excited to work alongside the Ethereum Foundation to engage cryptographers in building a verifier for the Pickles SNARK. This will allow Mina to be verified on Ethereum, a step towards building a bridge between the platforms” said Evan Shapiro, Mina Foundation board member and o1Labs CEO.

The RFP is open until March 31st, 2021 at 5pm PST and interested vendors are expected to confirm receipt and intention to bid on the engagement. Full bidding instructions can be found here: http://bit.ly/PicklesRFP

About Mina Foundation
The Mina Foundation is the non-profit steward of the Mina Protocol, the world’s lightest blockchain. The Foundation supports the protocol by issuing grants to third parties that make significant contributions and by maintaining & managing community assets. Board members include Former Executive Director at ZCash Foundation Josh Cincinnati, Principal of Slow Ventures Jill Carlson, VP of Engineering at Interchain GmbH and Tendermint developer Tess Rinearson, Fund Director and Joint Legal Counsel of International Management Services Sean Inggs, and CEO of o1Labs, the team that incubated Mina, Evan Shapiro.

About Mina Protocol

Mina is the world’s lightest blockchain, powered by participants. Rather than apply brute computing force, Mina uses advanced cryptography and recursive zk-SNARKs to design an entire blockchain that is about 22kb, the size of a couple of tweets. It is the first layer-1 to enable efficient implementation and easy programmability of zero knowledge smart contracts (zkApps). With its unique privacy features and ability to connect to any website, Mina is building a private gateway between the real world and crypto—and the secure, democratic future we all deserve.

Results and learnings from the first MEF tests
Summary  The previous blogpost proposed a community-led Mina Ecosystem Funding (MEF) process to support longer term, decentralized and sustainable funding for teams providing ongoing services to Mina Protocol.  In Q4 2024, Mina Foundation ran a test of an initial governance process and tooling for MEF with a small group of community members. This blogpost explains […]
