Community participation has always been key to Mina’s decentralization and ecosystem, and as the protocol and its community grows, the need for a way to gather broad community input has become apparent. With a hard fork coming soon, there are also key protocol changes that require discussion and decision-making. This was the impetus for the creation of MinaResearch, an open digital forum for ecosystem participants, modeled after Ethereum Research.
The MinaResearch platform was launched by a group of 11 community volunteers – MinaResearch Founding Members. It is an open digital forum where Mina ecosystem participants can propose new ideas, share their input on proposals, and collaborate with others to bring ideas to life. MinaResearch can house a variety of forward-looking ideas and topics, such as thoughts on DAOs, tools for governance, research/study on different products, but there will also be a section dedicated to Mina Improvement Proposals (MIPs).
MIPs are proposals related to technical protocol changes, and given the importance of getting these right, there will be a formal process including reviewing submissions, editors, voting, and more. A proposed process for working through MIPs is now open for feedback from MinaResearch Founding Members and the wider community. To view the proposal and share your thoughts, visit here.
The MinaResearch forum is now open for all. If you would like to stay updated and make your voice heard on the latest Mina developments, protocol changes, and forward-looking topics, join now.
About Mina Protocol
Mina is the world’s lightest blockchain, powered by participants. Rather than apply brute computing force, Mina uses advanced cryptography and recursive zk-SNARKs to design an entire blockchain that is about 22kb, the size of a couple of tweets. It is the first layer-1 to enable efficient implementation and easy programmability of zero knowledge smart contracts (zkApps). With its unique privacy features and ability to connect to any website, Mina is building a private gateway between the real world and crypto—and the secure, democratic future we all deserve.
