Ledger Nano X and Nano S Mina App— Pre-Audit Testing for Developers Available Now

Mina App 1.0.6 is now available in developer mode on Ledger Nano X and Nano S.

We are excited to announce that the Mina App 1.0.6 is now available in developer mode on Ledger Nano X and Nano S. With the support of community contributors, Ledger, and O(1) Labs, all Mina community members will now be able to use the application at their own risk while the wallet completes its audits.

How to Download Mina on Ledger

In order to view the unaudited Mina app, the Developer Mode must be activated. Here is how to do that:

How to enable Developer Mode on Ledger
  1. Click the gear button on the top right corner.
  2. Select “Experimental features”.
  3. Toggle the “Developer mode” functionality on.

Because Ledger Live only releases new apps and updates on the latest versions of the firmware, users should update their Ledger nano firmware, 2.1.0 on Nano S and 2.0.2 for Nano X devices.

After activating developer mode, users can download the unaudited Mina app. Here is how to find the Mina app in the app catalog.

How to download the Mina app on Ledger Live
  1. Select the “Manager” menu on the left panel.
  2. Make sure your firmware is up-to-date (at least 2.1.0 for Nano S or 2.0.2 for Nano X.)
  3. Select the “App catalog” tab.
  4. Search for Mina.
  5. Click install.

Currently, signing takes at least 1.5 minutes, and delegating takes about 3 minutes. Users of community-made browser-extension wallet, Auro, are encouraged to not click away from the browser extension before signing is complete. This helps ensure the transaction sends successfully.

What’s Next

The Mina Foundation is currently working with community wallet creators, Auro and Clor.io, to update their applications to inform users about the wait signing and delegating times.

Although the Mina Ledger application has already been audited by Least Authority, the application still needs to be audited by the Ledger team. While that is being completed, users should use the application at their own discretion. Once the Mina app is audited and approved, Ledger support for Mina can go public, at which point users will be able to use Ledger to custody MINA tokens without activating the Developer mode.

About Mina Protocol

Mina is the world’s lightest blockchain, powered by participants. Rather than apply brute computing force, Mina uses advanced cryptography and recursive zk-SNARKs to design an entire blockchain that is about 22kb, the size of a couple of tweets. It is the first layer-1 to enable efficient implementation and easy programmability of zero knowledge smart contracts (zkApps). With its unique privacy features and ability to connect to any website, Mina is building a private gateway between the real world and crypto—and the secure, democratic future we all deserve.
