On February 19th, 2021, the Mina Foundation announced a new Community Leaderboard, offering opportunities to compete in challenges for leaderboard points to potentially qualify for additional token grants. There were up to 500,000 tokens available, and the Top 25 on the leaderboard will be eligible to receive 20,000 tokens each for their contributions to the Mina community.
Mina’s community leaderboard program gave those who were new to Mina the unique opportunity to learn about the technology and how to get started, with the chance to qualify for some amazing rewards. The participation was overwhelming, with over 3K members participating, and 79% of them were brand new to the Mina community. To increase their chances of being in the top 25 winning spots, participants worked hard to complete challenges and create only the best quality online content for the chance to be eligible for a grant.
We would like to highlight some of the outstanding challenge submissions that we witnessed throughout the 6-week Community Leaderboard duration.

Mina Meme Connoisseurs
Besides cryptographers and developers, Mina is also filled with the best meme connoisseurs. Here are just a few of our favorites.
Discord user lovtsovalexey#9108 shared this tweet which explains zk-SNARKs in an interesting way!
Participant Vexter.Vladimir#5522 took to Twitter to tell Elon Musk that even in outer space, nothing is lighter than the Mina blockchain.
Here is a list of all other winners of Great Mina Meme Off and World’s Lightest Meme challenges.
Reddit is an important platform in the crypto space and Mina’s values extend to participants being open and curious on social media. Mina’s community leaderboard participants took to Reddit to share educational content, ask questions, and support one another.
Community member KingSuper#3702 took home first place by publishing a series of creative and educational articles about Mina called, “Even a Kid Would Get it.”
Winning participants were selected based on displaying Mina’s core values by engaging respectfully with other community members and by expressing curiosity in their writing. Congratulations to KingSuper#3702 and others who placed in the top 10 of this challenge.
Mina Deep Dive Videos
There was incredible participation on the Deep Dive Video challenge from hundreds of users. Producing videos is not an easy task so we want to thank each participant for taking the time to share the Mina message via a video to their communities.
A few people we would like to highlight are andfat#4230 & antropocosmist#5394, who created a high quality educational and creative video which kept viewers engaged by structuring the video like a travel channel program – but for zk-SNARKs!
There were over 150 Mina videos submitted so the competition was tough. Check out this list of the winning top 10 videos. Beyond these 10 videos, we would also like to recognize Nordy#1360 and amahodler#4246 for writing Mina original songs, KatrinGB#6571 for being inclusive by including an American Sign Language interpreter in her deep dive video, and (Andrey)#0146 for creating this amazing stop-motion video with hand-made clay creations to explain Mina! Thank you all for your hard work and effort.
Mina is known to have a large, robust, and friendly community ecosystem. Members are encouraged to uphold the values of Curiosity, Openness, Respect, and Excellence in their participation in the community. As a token of appreciation, Welcome Wagon and Values Champions awards were given to those who went above and beyond in building the community by welcoming new members, helping answer questions, and contributing technologically.
We awarded 7 Values Champion and 12 Welcome Wagon winners – to see the full list of these contributors, please check out past announcements on Mina’s Discord server.
Let’s take a moment to highlight a select few for their contributions.
Jrwashburn#0765 & Gareth#4963 created a pool payout script – a critical tool for hundreds of block producers on Mina. Gareth has also built the Mina Explorer for node operators to check key details of the network. Both continue to be consistent pillars of support for the community.
BeaconChain#8571 shared an alternative public GraphQL API node for the Mina community to help node operators and also created a fun way to change your Discord avatar!
Vexter.Vladimir#5522 & Beta#0963 have made themselves known to new and existing community members for their respect and friendly welcomes. We can always count on them to keep the community engaged and while maintaining a safe space for thoughts and questions.
Thank you to everyone who participated in supporting community growth and bolstering Mina’s online recognition by participating in this community leaderboard. Because of you, Mina is truly powered by participants.
Congratulations to the top 25 winners! With their grant, we hope that they can continue to support Mina as we grow.

The Community Leaderboard is a special leaderboard. Points (aka ‘pts’) won’t be merged with the testnet leaderboard on the website. Pts are designed solely to track contributions to the Mina Community and Leaderboard Pts have no cash or other monetary value. Leaderboard Pts are not transferable and are not redeemable or exchangeable for any cryptocurrency or digital assets. We may at any time amend or eliminate Leaderboard Points.
About Mina Protocol
Mina Protocol is being incubated by O(1) Labs, the leader in zk-SNARKs and verifiable computation. Mina Protocol, the world’s lightest blockchain, provides a foundation for the decentralized digital economy (Web 3.0), by affording all participants fully P2P, permissionless access to the chain, from any device. By utilizing recursive zk-SNARKs, the Mina blockchain always stays the same size — about 20 kilobytes (the size of a few tweets). Recursive zk-SNARKs allow nodes to rapidly share and update proof of the correct blockchain state across the network. This breakthrough application of zk-SNARKs solves the issues of scalability and high barrier to entry for nodes that have plagued legacy blockchains to-date. By making it easier for nodes to participate, Mina improves decentralization and therefore security of the network. The Mina blockchain can be easily accessed from any device, including phones and browsers, and can be seamlessly integrated into new decentralized applications (dapps).
