Mina Protocol Opens Sign-Ups for Adversarial Testnet

Adversarial testnet participants can earn up to 1% of the total supply in token rewards for uncovering network vulnerabilities, earn delegations from the Mina Foundation, and also be eligible for the Genesis token grants program.

Mina’s adversarial testnet participants can earn up to 1% of the total supply in token rewards for uncovering network vulnerabilities, earn delegations from the Mina Foundation, and also be eligible for the Genesis token grants program that will support them in becoming mainnet block producers.

San Francisco, CA September 18, 2020Mina Protocol, a lightweight framework for the Web 3.0, opens signups on a first-come, first-serve basis to participate in its adversarial testnet “Testworld,” which will launch later this year. Mina has partnered with HackerOne to support vulnerability submissions during adversarial testnet.

Evan Shapiro, CEO and Co-Founder of O(1) Labs, the team behind Mina Protocol, shared, “While Mina is a community that values respect, curiosity, excellence, and openness and is working towards launching the first truly decentralized blockchain at scale, Testworld is a dystopian world where nodes will compete to break the network and outsmart other nodes in order to make the network as secure as possible for mainnet.”

Mina is offering 1% of the total token supply as well as USD in rewards, which adversarial testnet participants can win in a variety of ways:

  • Uncovering vulnerabilities
  • Accruing testnet tokens
  • Scoring high points on the leaderboard

In addition, the Mina Foundation will be delegating tokens reserved for future grants to participants who score top points for reliability and block production once mainnet is live.

Testworld participants will also be eligible to qualify for a Genesis grant, with up to 800 slots still available until mainnet launch in Q4 of this year. This is the last opportunity community members will have to qualify for a grant before mainnet launches.

“The crypto ecosystem still has a long way to go when it comes to diversity of node participation from those who identify as women and all people of color,” Evan Shapiro expressed. “We are focused on building one of the most friendly, welcoming communities in crypto, contributing to growing the greater crypto ecosystem to include more people, and creating a node pool as diverse as its potential end users.”

Mina has invested in programs to support their diversity and inclusion goals and specifically welcome newcomers. Their Mentor Nodes program pairs those new to node operation with Technical Ambassadors to work towards earning a Genesis token grant. The Genesis token grants program trains participants to become block producers, thereby ensuring high decentralization upon mainnet. Mina actively monitors the diversity of its Genesis Founding Members Cohorts and has published data to show its progress against building a more diverse and inclusive community.

To-date, Mina’s testnet has hit a series of milestones that makes its forthcoming mainnet one of the most highly anticipated projects of 2020:

  • 1000+ unique testnet participants—on track to be larger than Polkadot, Cardano, and Avalanche
  • 140 Genesis Founding Members—core contributors who are highly skilled in Coda’s technology
  • 25 Technical community ambassadors from 15+ countries
  • The first production system to implement a recursive zk-SNARK with no trusted setup—Pickles

Mina’s unique deployment of recursive zk-SNARKs ensures the blockchain always stays the same size—about 20 kilobytes (the size of a few tweets). This unique application of zero knowledge proofs enables Mina to remain lightweight and easy for anyone to participate as a node. Additionally, Mina’s consensus mechanism allows for unlimited validator slots, and the documentation and tooling makes it easy for people who are new to crypto to get started.

About Mina

Mina is the world’s lightest blockchain, powered by participants. Rather than apply brute computing force, Mina uses advanced cryptography and recursive zk-SNARKs to design an entire blockchain that is and always will be about 22kb, the size of a couple tweets, ushering in a new era of blockchain accessibility. With its robust decentralized network and open-programmable currency, Mina is powering a more efficient and fair Web 3.0 so anyone can participate, build, exchange and thrive. Mina is a project of O(1) Labs, a leader in verifiable computation.
