San Francisco, CA; October 8, 2020 Joon Kim, former General Counsel of Terra, a blockchain technology company focused on algorithmic stablecoins with primary operations in Asia, joins O(1) Labs as General Counsel. O(1) Labs is the team behind Mina (formerly Coda Protocol), the world’s lightest blockchain. Mina is able to retain a size of 22 kb via its unique deployment of recursive zk-SNARKs, enabling anyone to sync the chain in seconds, ushering in a new era of blockchain accessibility.

“I believe O(1) Labs’ recursive zk-SNARKs technology sets them apart from many other layer 1 blockchain protocols,” expressed Joon Kim. “Such technology significantly lowers the cost of entry to participate in a democratic and consensus-based network and improves upon the scalability and accessibility issues faced by existing blockchain technology. The team is strong, and I am excited to contribute to a protocol that has the potential to bring about mass adoption of decentralized applications.”

Prior to joining O(1) Labs and his work with Terra, Joon Kim was Vice President and Associate General Counsel at Lightyear Capital, a private equity firm based in New York City. He also served as Assistant General Counsel and Vice President at Goldman Sachs for three years, advising its asset management division. After graduating from Cornell Law School and New York University with distinctions, he started his career at international law firms, including Kirkland & Ellis LLP.

“We are incredibly pleased to welcome Joon Kim to the O(1) Labs team and Mina community,” said Evan Shapiro, CEO and Co-Founder of O(1) Labs, the team behind Mina. “His expertise in cryptocurrency and blockchain law & regulatory frameworks will be invaluable to us as we work towards launching a highly decentralized network supporting verifiable applications and programmable currency.”

About Mina

Mina is the world’s lightest blockchain, powered by participants. Rather than apply brute computing force, Mina uses advanced cryptography and recursive zk-SNARKs to design an entire blockchain that is and always will be about 22kb, the size of a couple tweets, ushering in a new era of blockchain accessibility. With its robust decentralized network and open-programmable currency, Mina is powering a more efficient and fair Web 3.0 so anyone can participate, build, exchange and thrive. Mina is a project of O(1) Labs, a leader in verifiable computation.

About Mina Protocol

Mina is the world’s lightest blockchain, powered by participants. Rather than apply brute computing force, Mina uses advanced cryptography and recursive zk-SNARKs to design an entire blockchain that is about 22kb, the size of a couple of tweets. It is the first layer-1 to enable efficient implementation and easy programmability of zero knowledge smart contracts (zkApps). With its unique privacy features and ability to connect to any website, Mina is building a private gateway between the real world and crypto—and the secure, democratic future we all deserve.
